Bradford Citizens Together
Posted 6th February 2025
Representatives from the Dixons McMillan student leadership team were proud to represent their school at the 'Bradford Citizens Together' meeting hosted by the Dixons Centre for Growth and Citizens UK. Citizens UK is a national non-partisan organisation that focuses on community organising and giving communities a voice in holding government to account for positive social change.
The meeting was an opportunity for delegates from schools across Bradford to speak about key issues and work that has been going on in schools. Our Dixons McMillan team presented on the impact of student leadership, inclusive listening campaigns, cultural studies, culture days and anti-racism work at Dixons McMillan.
We heard from Trust Leaders - Luke Sparkes from Dixons and Shirley Watson from Beckfoot Trust - about their support for the incredible work of the young people in Bradford.
The meeting culminated with a vote on the student leadership team and to decide on the next campaign priorities for Bradford Citizens. A lively debate was held on which of the two main issues on the agenda should be taken forward as our campaign priority: anti-racism and inclusion or mental health and wellbeing. All were agreed that these were both important but the passion for anti-racism and inclusion meant that this issue would be taken forward as highest priority. We are really proud of their commitment to making our community stronger.
