Class of 2026 (Y11) Historians visit Fountains Abbey

Posted 13th September 2023

All History students at Dixons McMillan Academy have to visit the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal at some point in their studies ready for their examination on local history.

Year 11 students were blessed this year with excellent weather as they explored the beautiful setting of the almost-900 year old monastery ruins in the morning.

In the afternoon students went on a walk through 'water gardens' which were designed by disgraced former Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Aislabie, in the 1700s to impress in his bid to claw back power. Students enjoyed visiting the various different follies and considering what it would have been like to visit 300 years before.
