GCSE Humanities Expeditions

Posted 2nd July 2024

All History students at Dixons McMillan Academy have to visit the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal at some point in their studies ready for their examination on local history. We had some lovely weather this year as they explored the beautiful setting of the almost-900 year old monastery ruins in the morning followed by lunch and a further exploration of the Aislabie Family's impressive water gardens at Studley Royal in the afternoon. You can find out more about the GCSE History qualification taken by students at DMA here.

Meanwhile, Geography students took part in conducting fieldwork relating to Human Geography. This involved a number of different geographical techniques in order to work out key data such as population and demographics. Students certainly saw the Broadway centre in a different light! In the afternoon, students then visited Heaton Woods to this time conduct fieldwork relating to Physical Geography. They investigated the course of the Red Beck which flows through the woods, taking a host of measurements to create further data. You can find out more about the GCSE Geography qualification taken at DMA here.
